Abstract:

Increased interest in the use of electronic health records (EHRs) to improve healthcare service delivery can be witnessed all over the world. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine how the adoption of EHRs has affected the quality of service provided by Nigerian hospitals. Due to the objective and subjective nature of the study conducted, this dissertation embraced a positivist and interpretive worldview and an inductive and deductive methodology. One hundred (i.e., 100) people were chosen at random from the population of Lagos, Nigeria. Using SPSS version 28, the author performed both descriptive (i.e., frequency distributions) and inferential statistical analyses (i.e., regressions and correlations). This dissertation reviewed and scanned the pertinent theories (i.e., service quality theory and Donabedian’s theory of quality in healthcare) and scholarly literature s. However, the finding showed that the challenges of adopting and implementing electronic health records in some healthcare institutions significantly affect quality delivery, as seen in the R2 = 0.763; P = 0.000. Also, the finding indicates a nexus between each of the dimensions of EHR features (i.e., data security, user experience, system reliability, and training), which include: data security and privacy (r = 0.470** sig. at 5% level), usability and user experience (r = 0.511** sig. at 5% level), technical support and system reliability (r = 0.429** sig. at 5% level), training and education (r = 0.480= 0.480** sig. at 5% level), and service delivery in healthcare institutions have all tested positive at 95% confidence level. Meanwhile, the study found that certain elements of the factors that influence the adoption and effective use of EHRs by healthcare providers have no significant effect on service delivery in healthcare institutions (R2 = 0.566, P = 0.056). The final hypothesis indicated that the strategies employed by the healthcare institutions are adequately effective, and if they can be enhanced, it will equally enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery. Conclusively, EHRs have become a revolutionary instrument in contemporary healthcare organisations, greatly influencing service delivery and patient care. Obviously, the implementation of EHRs has produced several advantages, such as greater information accessibility, improved care coordination, and simplified workflows, all of which have been made possible by the availability of thorough and ongoing training programmes.
