Abstract:

The deficiency in entrepreneurial creativity skills among business education undergraduates has become a major concern in recent time. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a training intervention on entrepreneurial creativity of business students, also to investigate the difference in entrepreneurial creativity based on socioeconomic status. One research question and one hypothesis were raised, formulated and tested accordingly. Quasi experimental design with factorial matrix of 2x3 was adopted. This involves the treatments at two levels (experimental and control group), and three levels of family socio-economic status (high, average and low) were used. The population of this study consisted of 873 Business Education students in public universities in Nigeria and 139 participated in the study across the experimental and control groups. The experimental and control groups were exposed to the intervention (Product development and customers’ relations training-(PDCRIP) having been stratified into three levels of socioeconomic status. A validated entrepreneurial creativity performance test (ECPT) was used for pre-test and post-test. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the research question, and ANCOVA was used to test the hypothesis. The findings revealed that students from low socio-economic status families are entrepreneurially creative than students from average and high socio-economic status families. It was recommended that that periodic orientation programme be organised for the students across post-secondary education system so to motivate them towards entrepreneurship endeavours and de-emphasize the perceived influence of socio-economic status on career or entrepreneurial engagement.
