Abstract:

In the wake of sustainability push, corporations are stretching their boundaries towards sustainable businesses. It is of paramount importance to divert these efforts in meaningful directions on this journey toward sustainability. In this study, we attempt to analyze Corporate Knights Global 100 (ranking by Corporate Knights Magazine) firms of years 2022 and 2023 most sustainable corporations in the world from different sectors, and capture the most crucial sustainability measures evident through the analysis of leading firms in these sectors. The chosen sectors are banks, semiconductor and electronic components manufacturing, textiles and clothing manufacturing, power generation, and pharmaceutical & biotech sectors. The scatter plots of correlation coefficients of these sectors portray varied emphasis on “Environmental”, “social”, and “governance” KPIs based on the nature of the sector, and major emphasis is found to be on “environmental” and “governance” KPIS by most of the sectors. This study paves a path for second-generation firms on a sustainability journey to chart out a proven path to direct their initiatives benchmarking with some exemplary initiatives of industry sustainability stalwarts. Thus, the study has a practical focus highlighting implications for corporations.
