Abstract:

In this developmental paper we utilise a genealogical approach to consider the manifestations and implications of our reflexivity and positionality over the course of a research project. We consider the contribution of the work to our own location in the subject under investigation to the conduct of the work and how the work in turn influenced our positionality. We discuss reflection as a practical tool to aid reflexivity, the ethical issues arising from the immanent positionality of the researchers, and the ways in which this has impacted on the conduct and outcomes of the work. Our purpose is to extend debate on the role of positionality and reflexivity in research using a case study approach. We intend to consider our learning in relation to contemporary debate regarding the co-construction and collaborative conduct of research, together with the implications for the pursuit of research impact and social value.
