Abstract:

The article investigates how combinations of entrepreneurial ecosystem pillars generate high entrepreneurial output. Going beyond linear approaches that estimate the net effects of individual dimensions, we adopt a configurational perspective to explore how interdependent conditions jointly shape the creation of innovative enterprises with high growth potential. Using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), we examine multiple configurations of institutional, cultural, relational, and material factors associated with high levels of innovative new business creation. The results reveal that the presence of different combinations of ecosystem pillars may be sufficient to achieve high entrepreneurial performance, highlighting that no single pillar is universally decisive. By uncovering alternative configurations that lead to high entrepreneurial outputs, this study contributes to the literature on entrepreneurial ecosystems and offers policy-relevant insights into how territorial conditions can be combined to promote high-growth entrepreneurship.
