I am a PhD candidate at the London School of Economics Department of Economic History. My academic supervisors are Gerben Bakker and Mary Morgan. Prior to starting my PhD, I worked for many years as an investment banker at Standard Chartered Bank as well as in the corporate development teams of biopharma companies Pfizer and Novartis.
My PhD research focuses on small innovative firms and scientist-turned-entrepreneurs within the newly emerging US biotech industry of the 1980s. I investigate how these firms and entrepreneurs found financing for their risky, long-gestation R&D. I also investigate whether the manner of financing influenced the development of their R&D and technologies.
