Abstract:

We examine whether an organization level innovation management system (IMS), such as ISO 56001:2024, would support UK productivity and growth, and whether its requirements can trace from organisation level application through to recognised macro innovation and economic indices. Using structured secondary analysis of IMS organization level outcomes, peer reviewed studies, policy reports, and open measurement frameworks, we synthesise evidence on innovation enabling productivity and growth, management quality, UK diffusion constraints, and standardised IMS. Our central contribution is a clause to index mapping that links ISO 56001:2024 requirements to the well-known Oslo Manual and the Global Innovation Index, while evidencing this approach through the ONS Management and Expectations Survey, the ‘Be the Business’ Productive Business Index, and the World Management Survey. We posit that this mapping provides a policy relevant monitoring framework for targeted and effective, capability, skills, and investment programmes.
