Abstract:

In the study, we attempt to delve into the dynamics of gig employees' psychological well-being (GPWB) through a comprehensive exploration via a meta-analytic review. Our study introduces a multilevel framework that delineates GPWB and its correlational factors, including moderators acting as boundary conditions in the connections between GPWB and its correlates. The results underscore a strong correlation between Gig Employees' Psychological Well-Being and factors inclined towards social aspects, such as regulation and technology involvement. Subsequently, organizational-oriented factors like work engagement and individual-oriented factors, such as work-life integration, follow suit. The findings frequently exhibit significant variability in the associations of GPWB and some of its correlates, exemplified by job profile (r values ranging from -.23 to .25), emphasizing the nuanced nature of GPWB. The study identifies gender (male and female), generations (Baby Boomers, GenX, and GenY), mode of work (Offline and online), and culture (individualistic and collectivist) as moderators affecting GPWB and some of its correlates. Additionally, we propose future research directions within the paper. The study offers ample insights for scholars, industry practitioners, and policymakers, contributing substantially to the field.
