Abstract:

Despite the recognised value of frameworks to guide sustainable management education, few such models have been empirically derived. This research has assessed the validity of a recently published empirical five-pillar sustainability model that was generated using Australian student sustainability perceptions. This research tested the five-pillar model via a survey of 1,200 students across Australia, Vietnam and Pakistan.

This developmental research paper briefly outlines this study’s literature and methodology and presents exploratory analysis of 300 responses (approximately 100 from each country) from the pilot survey stage. These top-line findings have highlighted the benefit of a more traditional four-pillar sustainability model and provided insights to country-specific sustainability perceptions. The model and contextual differences will be more robustly explored when the main survey is completed. In the meantime, this initial paper seeks to stimulate discussion of analytical approaches for evaluating the contextual differences, as well as avenues for future research into sustainable management education.
