Abstract:

The configuration of entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) influences the flow of resources, but very few studies analyse how their socio-emotional characteristics affect the way entrepreneurs get access to support. This paper explores how a cluster perceives its connections to the rest of EE elements through its business practices during social interaction. Archival data and 33 interviews helped examine how culture shapes the socio-emotional boundaries around clusters and networks, perpetuating a cohesive ethos and market logics. Findings suggest that entrepreneurs go through an acclimatisation process that consists of an adjustment of business initiatives to situational factors, promoting the creation of links between clusters and networks. This relational configuration is established through specific interaction ritual chains (IRC) that establish and spread the meaning of ritualistic business practices that lead to the construction of identities or commercial categories that encompass the sort of business outcomes supported in the EE.
