Abstract
This developmental paper presents preliminary insights derived from a narrative literature review of digital labour in developing countries. Specifically, the study aims to examine current evidence on the challenges within digital labour and its associated innovation processes. The scope of the study focuses on the African region and other developing-country contexts. Based on the literature search process, the synthesis was narrowed to 18 selected articles. The findings reveal several critical challenges faced by informal workers engaged in digital labour. Accordingly, this study identifies key areas within the digital labour ecosystem that require regulation, improvement, and further development in developing countries. Over the years, new business processes have also emerged within digital labour relations. Specifically, the preliminary findings show that innovation processes involving digital labour workers and companies are developed through external forms of cooperation. Furthermore, this paper formulates future research recommendations to advance studies on the digital labour ecosystem in the context of developing countries.
