Abstract
This paper applies a market studies perspective to Innovation Support Organisations (ISOs) –organisations such as incubators, accelerators, adoption support programmes and catalysts – and argues that they should consider and address market innovation as well as technological innovation in their design and activities. We report on empirical research across over thirty UK ISOs. Emerging findings suggest that ISOs should consider market innovation in terms of 1) defining the market object, (2) knowledge and skills, (3) market infrastructure, (4) policy and regulation, (5) valuation, and (6) envisioning new or re-shaped markets.
