Abstract
This work in progress draws on a dataset of 350 business millionaires and inventors associated with approximately 8,000 patents. It traces their mobility and exposure to American industrial practices, and subsequent FDI and innovative activity. Findings indicate that travel enabled actors to observe advanced production methods, organisational systems, and emerging technologies, influencing firm strategies and inventors’ patenting behaviour during a period of constrained global
