Abstract
This paper looks to explore the role of antenarrative and power relations in the development of strategies that attempt to shape industries around big bets. It shows that the shaping strategy process involves three stages: (1) developing a shaping intention; (2) designing solutions without a final goal in mind; and (3) influencing stakeholders. Drawing on antenarrative literature it goes on to show how the disruptive and pre-narrative nature of antenarratives act as antecedents to the development of shaping intentions and designed solutions. Meanwhile, drawing on a taxonomy of power shows that, depending upon the purpose of the shaping action different forms of power are employed.
