Abstract
This paper introduces the Strategic Knowledge Governance as Practice (SKGP) framework, which models macro- and micro-level connections within organisations while accounting for institutional logics that influence both. Grounded in qualitative and quantitative research and developed following the inductive realist model of theory generation (Hunt, 2013, 2015), the framework identifies key factors shaping knowledge-based value creation. Drawing on the knowledge-based view, the knowledge governance approach, and strategy-as-practice research, it integrates praxis, practices, and practitioners across meta-, macro-, and micro-levels. As an orientation tool, the SKGP framework helps capture dependencies and influences in knowledge governance. This paper extends the initial model (2021) by incorporating challenges arising from AI’s interaction with intra-organisational knowledge processes and highlights essential elements for adapting strategic knowledge governance to current organisational realities.
