Abstract
This study explores the intricate dynamics of gender and gender roles within family businesses, specifically focusing on their impact on succession plans. Drawing from existing literature, we construct a model aimed at explaining succession intentions of the next generation of owners. Our analysis zeroes in on the nuanced interplay of gender roles, examining how they shape the perceptions and aspirations of successors within the business context. To empirically investigate these relationships, we employ a robust structural equation model, leveraging preliminary data gathered from 34 next-generation owners. Through this analytical framework, we aim to illuminate the pathways through which gender and associated roles influence the outlook and engagement of successors in shaping the future trajectory of their family businesses.
