Abstract
Why do some topics receive more attention, and more intervention, in the EDI space than others? This developmental paper summarises the early findings from an evidence review on EDI practices in relation to research and innovation careers before setting out a direction of travel to theorise some of the more perplexing gaps that our evidence review identified. The focus of our research has been on those settings where academic judgement is applied to arrive at career defining decisions about research or innovation work. One prominent example would be the allocation of funding to research or innovation projects and our purpose is to address practices which lead to inequality in the allocation of such funding. Our evidence review indicates that blindspots exist across multiple layers of the research process and we set out to investigate how these blindspots are maintained within research and innovation communities and what responses can be developed.
