Abstract
This study explores the dynamics of cross-boundary knowledge co-creation, focusing on its impact on the speed and breadth of knowledge diffusion from academia to industry. It identifies five critical cross-boundary endeavors: industrial co-creation, cross-border co-creation, cross-disciplinary co-creation, cross-border knowledge connection, and cross-ownership interconnection. The research reveals how these endeavors influence the diffusion of scientific knowledge and technological ripple effects. Findings suggest that while some forms of co-creation accelerate knowledge transfer to practical applications, they may not always enhance its long-term industrial impact. Conversely, despite potentially slowing down immediate knowledge transfer, interdisciplinary and cross-border collaborations contribute significantly to the broader applicability and impact of research outcomes in the industry. The study underscores the nuanced relationship between different types of collaboration and their effects on knowledge dissemination and innovation, highlighting the importance of strategic collaboration to maximize immediate and long-term benefits.
