Abstract
Projects are vehicles for implementing the changes required for achieving important national and global sustainability goals. However, sustainability in the context of projects has the potential to become meaningless without a common understanding in place of what it is and how it is assessed. The objective of this developmental paper is to develop a survey instrument, the Sustainable Project Performance Index (SPPI), to determine and benchmark the level of sustainabity performance of major projects. This paper contributes to research into sustainable project management by providing a scientifically developed assessment of sustainable performance at a project level.
