Abstract
AI- HRM uses automated HR decisions based on significant amounts of employee data and on sophisticated analyses of these data. Thereby, new forms of employee control arise and algorithmic HRM has a potential to radically shift employment relations as well as to foster power imbalances in favor of employers. Within digital capitalism increasingly numbers of employees, especially vulnerable workers, like platform workers, face the threat of being controlled and exploited as well as of losing voice in the context of algorithmic HRM. In this conceptual article, we ask how a collective-action based HRM can prevent vulnerable workers from new forms of Algorithmic control. Drawing on recent literature we identify specific solutions (institutional dynamics, collective identity and leadership development) that empower disadvantaged stakeholders such as vulnerable workers for co-creating algorithmic HRM. We contribute to the literature on Common Good HRM, Algorithmic HRM and vulnerable workers.
