Abstract
The present study is an exploratory study using a qualitative approach conducted to explore the prevalence of uncivil behaviours in organizations and how targets and witnesses make sense of these interactions when the perpetrators are star performers in the organization. Focused group discussions and semi-structured interviews of 48 participants were conducted. The participants were employees working in managerial roles in organizations in India with a minimum of three years of work experience. When the organization values adherence to goals rather than the behavioural attributes of the star performers, it may lead to deviant and dark behaviours permeating the organization's culture slowly but surely. While we deal with a VUCA world and evolving social contracts in the workplace, HR and business leaders need to ensure that success does not come at the cost of respect and dignity of the workforce.
