Abstract
This paper reports preliminary findings from an ongoing research project investigating whether, and in what ways, organizational learning in civil nuclear decommissioning in the UK is insular or not. The case of learning in civil nuclear decommissioning is a unique case for exploring organisational learning dynamics because of the importance attached to safety and security in this sector, and the public service and regulatory context of the sector. Research so far has involved semantic network analysis of selected publicly available Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) documents, participant observation in an academic and industry forum, and preliminary fieldwork, surveys and interviews. The findings provide some potential evidence of insularity within the sector, and raises questions for our further research.
