Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized various sectors, but its capacity to generate and disseminate content has also escalated the spread of misinformation, posing significant ethical challenges. The proliferation of AI-generated falsehoods undermines public trust and destabilizes societies, influencing cognitive biases and fostering political cynicism. Psychologically, individuals struggle with information processing and resilience, exacerbated by AI's ability to create persuasive yet deceptive content. Economically, AI-driven misinformation can disrupt markets and reshape societal values, leading to unintended consequences. This paper delves into AI's role in amplifying misinformation, examining the ethical dilemmas, psychological effects, and societal impacts. It emphasizes the urgency for ethical AI development, advocating for frameworks that ensure trustworthiness, fairness, and accountability in AI systems. By promoting epistemic virtues and responsible information consumption, society can harness AI's benefits while mitigating its potential harms. Implementing comprehensive safeguards is crucial to prevent long-term damage and build a trusted future in the age of AI.
