Abstract
Drawing on theories of paradox that argue that algorithmic decisions can produce both efficiency/effectiveness and inequality, this study explores the contradictory effects of digital technologies in terms of public value creation. Accordingly, this study raises two fundamental questions: 1) How are police practices "migrating" to artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics? 2) In what way do these technologies affect public value creation across police forces in England and Wales? It is expected that this paper will promote the use of innovative mixed-methods approaches based on comparative research, while contributing to the broader policy debate around the transformation of work within the criminal justice system.
