Abstract
Digital platforms can be designed to structure industry-specific circular resource and material flows while facilitating value exchanges among stakeholders. This study argues that the successful design of a circular economy market platform requires collaboration among ecosystem actors to tailor the platform to meet case-specific and system-level goals. Through a qualitative case study, this research seeks to answer the question: “what are the key factors necessary for developing an effective CE platform?” by exploring the critical factors necessary for developing a circularity-oriented platform for the built environment sector. The study sample comprises stakeholders from the built environment sector to explore collaborative development processes and identify essential platform design features. This research aims to provide insights into the development of sector-wide platform ecosystems that enable the material circularity within the sector.
