Abstract
Building on an ongoing empirical study that explores the links between sustainability and digital technologies, the paper reports on the significance of industry sector and locality in understanding these links. Although the adoption of digital technologies is driving economic, social and environmental changes worldwide, concerns have been raised that the digital transformation risks further environmental damage. The paper presents the results of a systematic literature review exploring the current state of knowledge about the use of digital technologies for decarbonisation by sector and region. The analysis confirms uneven utilisation of digital technologies for the Net Zero transition, linked to the maturity of the political, economic, social and regulatory factors for Net Zero. This analysis will inform the next phase of the study via a Delphi methodology. The study will elaborate on the ways in which the digital transformation can enable positive engagement with the Net Zero transition.
