Abstract
This paper examines the tendency of emerging market multinationals to resort to ethnocentric staffing policy when operating in an advanced economy. It looks at Indian IT sector companies operating in the United Kingdom. This paper argues that culture is a critical factor which prevents Indian IT multinationals from hiring local employees in their UK subsidiaries. This article divides culture into three broad types national culture, organisational culture and IT culture. A major part of the latter half of this paper delves deeper into the concept of ‘IT culture’ and its role in the international staffing of Indian IT sector multinationals in the United Kingdom. This article provides examples of Indian IT culture that make Indian IT sector multinationals unique.
