Abstract
Guided by the resource mobilization theory and bricolage literature, we developed and tested a moderated mediation model of entrepreneurial phronesis on personal initiative based on a time-lagged data sourced from 301 Ghanaian SMEs. We found bricolage as the lynchpin between entrepreneurial phronesis and personal initiative. The effect of bricolage on personal initiative was moderated by entrepreneurs’ resource mobilization self-efficacy. Our study extends entrepreneurial cognition and behaviour literature by identifying a new mechanism in bricolage which addresses the effect of entrepreneurial phronesis on personal initiative. We examined how resource mobilization self-efficacy reinforces the bricolage effect in resource constraint settings. The contributions of our findings to theory and practice are discussed together with the limitations and potential avenues for future research agenda.
