Abstract
This study investigates how boundary-crossing co-creation collaboration models affect the Knowledge Diffusion Speed and the Technology Ripple Effect of academic research in industry, and analyzes the critical influence of various collaborative approaches on research transformation. Drawing on cross-citation analyses of journal articles (1998–2013) and patents (1998–2018), the results show that Industrial Co-Creation and Cross-border Co-Creation significantly accelerate the citation of scientific knowledge in patents. Meanwhile, Cross-disciplinary Co-Creation may slightly delay early-stage application but has far-reaching benefits for long-term technological innovation. In addition, patents with Cross-ownership Interconnection can dampen the sustained impact of knowledge due to increased negotiation costs. This study highlights the importance of effectively managing collaborative boundaries and knowledge networks. It also recommends advancing interdisciplinary research and bolstering international knowledge-sharing platforms to facilitate universities’ third mission, support technological innovation, and foster a sustainable knowledge economy.
