Abstract
The rapid development and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping traditional business practices, like Professional Service Firms (PSFs). This study examines AI’s influence on the key resources of PSFs through the lens of the Resource-Based View (RBV). Conducting a systematic review of 43 high-quality peer-reviewed studies, the research evaluates AI’s impact on critical intangible resources, including knowledge, relational skills, service quality, innovation and reputation across different PSF categories.
By introducing the RBV-PSF framework, this study offers a structured synthesis of current literature, uncovers key research gaps, and provides a comprehensive analysis of AI’s transformative role. The proposed future research agenda underscores the importance of examining AI’s strategic adoption, its potential to drive innovation, and its long-term implications for competitive advantage in PSFs. These insights serve as a valuable resource for both academics and industry professionals navigating AI-driven changes in PSFs.
