Abstract
In recent years there has been interest in the dynamics of physical and virtual communication in remote project teams. These dynamics have been impacted by the environmental pressures from COVID-19. This research performed a systematic literature review to identify if the change in dynamics have impacted on the barriers and challenges for remote project teams’ communication practices and project lifecycle. A systematic literature review was performed using a keyword search in key databases between the years of 2004-2024. The literature showed the reactions to the barriers and challenges seen in the transformation process required by organisations and remote project teams adapting to environmental pressures. The research concludes that the literature focused on the transformation process and didn’t fully explore the impact on changes in barriers and challenges on remote project teams. Further research opportunities have been identified, including questions into how the transformation impacted on communication during a project’s lifecycle.
