Abstract
Although the growing body of research on dynamic capabilities theory has expanded, the role of corporate governance remains underexplored. To address this gap, we propose integrating the corporate governance literature with Writz's (2011) model to study how corporate governance influences dynamic capabilities (Teece, 2023). Thus, we conduct an exploratory study, comprising 10 interviews among service-based French firms. Our findings indicate that sensing, seizing, and transforming dynamic capabilities play a key role in developing innovation. Additionally, both spontaneous and intentional mechanisms contribute to developing these dynamic capabilities. However, we found no evidence to support the influence of intentional specific mechanisms on dynamic capabilities. This research makes a significant contribution to the dynamic capabilities theory by incorporating a corporate governance perspective and examining its impact on the development of dynamic capabilities, which in turn foster innovation. Practically, we identify several corporate mechanisms that foster the development of firms dynamic capabilities for innovation.
