Abstract
Over a decade of research on PSC has yielded more than 400 studies across different disciplines. Most studies have mainly drawn on the seminar work of Dollard and Bakker (2010) that considers PSC as a work-related stress prevention mechanism. In contrast with the extensively studied outcomes of PSC, relatively limited mechanisms that make PSC stand out from other concepts of organisational support in promoting positive psychological outcomes among employees. The primary objective of this developmental paper is to propose a conceptual framework that captures the antecedents of psychosocial safety climate (PSC) across institutional, organisational and managerial levels. The secondary objective is to provide an overview of how this multilevel framework applies to research on emotional labour.
