Abstract
The world is currently facing several environmental challenges. Because of this, environment-friendly practices and sustainability initiatives are increasingly being emphasized in business. It is widely recognized that companies must minimize their carbon emissions and contribute towards sustainable development. In recent years, many companies have transformed their business operations to include green practices such as green HRM and green supply chain management to achieve sustainability goals. Green HRM plays an important role in fostering the right culture, capabilities, and employee behaviours to help achieve the sustainability and environment-related goals of the company. Green HRM practices are linked with other green practices such as green supply chain management, green marketing, green innovation, etc., to generate positive outcomes in terms of environmental sustainability as well as enhanced performance of employees and the company. Though earlier studies have focused on sustainability and green practices in business, implementing green practices such as green HRM in global value chains of firms is an understudied area. This paper explores various aspects of implementing green practices in companies' global value chains (GVCs) and details the cases of three US-based companies in different industries having operations in several parts of the globe, the location of the study being India.
