Abstract
Abstract: This study investigated the influence of abusive supervision on employee performance via job stress and the moderating influence of religiousness. The findings of this study added to the abusive supervision literature by highlighting the direct and indirect effects of abusive supervision on job stress and employee performance. Incidents of abusive supervision add to the employee’s worry and stress at the workplace which distracts them from investing their efforts in achieving work goals, indirectly compromising their work performance. Interestingly, religiousness as a moderator has the capacity to mitigate the influence of abusive supervision and keeps employees focused at work during stressful work conditions. The research implications have unscored the need for keeping workplace abuse-free and for this purpose strict organizational monitoring policies should be implemented along the with the appropriate skill training workshops for supervisors and employees.
