Abstract
The following paper delves into the emerging field of entrepreneurial leadership in small businesses. The research focuses on the context of entrepreneurial leadership and presents findings based on the narratives of Nigerian business owners. Through the use of field data and existing literature, a formal definition of entrepreneurial leadership is proposed, along with the introduction of entrepreneurial relational characteristics, attributes, and skills. The study highlights the socially constructed nature of entrepreneurial leadership and emphasises the importance of selective and strategic attributes. Additionally, the paper identifies empathy and people management as the dominant relational characteristics. The paper provides practical and policy implications and suggests directions for future research.
