Evolution of the Fifth Industrial Revolution: A Forecast
Abstract
Technological advancement has changed the outlook of almost everything, business, lives and even our thinking pattern. Wherein one hand it brings the social change, on the other it revolutionizes the processes like manufacturing, management practices like operations, and technological tools. This study examines the underlying principles of earlier industrial revolutions, the current post-COVID-19 scenario, and attempts to ponder on how the next industrial revolution might develop as a whole, with ongoing technological development in wireless communication, potentially playing a primary role, and other upcoming technological concepts, potentially serving important supporting roles. With the recognition of the coexistence of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and 5.0, we have developed five questions to organize our arguments, and we made an effort to be objective in our choice of information sources and in our discussions of the major problems. This study may serve as a catalyst for further discussion and on upcoming Industrial Revolution 5.0.
