Abstract
B Lab commenced 5 July 2006 in Pennsylvania, USA prior to the global financial crisis, seeking to boost stakeholder representation in corporate missions. The emergence of B Lab is a catalyst for the change, status, and empowerment of business with flexibility to pursue social good. In 2006, B Lab created B Corporation (B Corp) certification, a sophisticated system for auditing and recognising genuine CSR. Two B Lab founders, Bart Houlahan and Dan Osusky (2016, p. 16), claim the B Corp movement is “…to redefine success in business so that companies compete to be not just the best in the world but the best for the world.” So far, only a handful of firms have sought certification. Our research seeks to identify the factors for B Corp certification. The findings indicate time, cost, and feasibility were factors to consider. Additionally, greater awareness of B Corp status is needed in Australia.
