Biography

Dr Vivienne Spooner joined GIBS in 2002 as a programme manager in Executive Education, following a two-decade high school mathematics teaching career. She served as a long-time member of the GIBS doctoral programmes management team, and now is a mentor in the programme. A proponent of lifelong learning Dr Spooner, graduated with a PhD in adult education from UKZN, her research focused on nonformal learning in a leadership programme, Nexus, at GIBS. She found that, through Nexus, participants can experience profound transformative learning that begins with self and informs their praxis of leadership. Her research interest lies in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, focusing on how learning happens in post-graduate studies. Dr Spooner has served as a committee member of the Research Ethics and Masters' Research Committees at GIBS and supervises MBA, MPhil and Doctoral students whose research interests are in leadership or learning. She also co-teaches Research Design to MPhil (EBM), and is Faculty Lead for the MPhil in evidence-based management.
