Abstract
Recent media stories have suggested that Gen Z are gambling more than other generations. This study explores if this is the case, using data from the Gambling Survey of Great Britain. In general, gamblers tend to be younger but few differences are found between Gen Z and Millennials (and Gen X) in terms of their gambling behaviour. The exceptions to this are that Gen Z tend not to play lotteries and, perhaps unsurprisingly, are more likely to gamble online. Clearer differences are found in the reasons for gambling, with Gen Z tending to gamble for social reasons whilst older gamblers are more driven by the lure of winning money.
