Abstract
This study adopts the social constructionism perspective to explore the Chinese women leaders’ gendered practices when facing barriers posed by gender in the workplace. Employing qualitative research methods, this study is divided into two phases, the pilot study and the full study, to explore and understand the practices of Chinese women leaders in the workplace, the barriers posed by gender, and their understanding of and responses to these obstacles. The pilot study conducted by using ethnography, has discussed the Chinese cultural and social context, the barriers they face, their perspectives and practices. The full study will be refined and developed based on the findings of the pilot study, using semi-structured interviews to collect the comprehensive and deeper understanding of Chinese women leaders. This study contributes to filling the gap on the development of women leadership in China and providing reference for the development of more women leaders.
