Abstract
Purpose: Human resource management practices are linked to enhanced corporate performance. This paper aims to investigate how these practices influence organisational commitment.
Research Method: Data were collected via an online survey from 306 financial advisors in the South African insurance sector. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed.
Findings: The findings show that three of the five human resource management practices, namely recruitment and selection, training and development, and employee empowerment, are positively and significantly related to the organisational commitment of these financial advisors.
Theoretical Implications: The study lends credence to the contention of enhancing organisational commitment and makes a case for additional research on the relationship between these three human resource management practices and organisational commitment.
Practical Implications: The study will aid managers and human resource practitioners to develop strategies, policies and practices that can improve employee loyalty, fulfilment, and satisfaction and enhance organisational sustainability, retention and productivity.
