Abstract
Small businesses and start-ups often lack dedicated resources for cybersecurity, and there is a growing interest among practitioners and policymakers about the factors affecting digital security behaviours and the enablers and barriers to new secure technology adoption. Additionally, the expanding digital world is making cybersecurity a general rather than a specialist skill, and there is a growing need for multi-disciplinary and accessible training resources. Games offer a dual solution, serving as both research tools and teaching aids, facilitating the exploration of perceptions, beliefs, and biases about digital security while providing an engaging platform for learning. This paper introduces a game-based simulation to investigate investment behaviours in start-ups and their technology adoption, while also evaluating the game’s efficacy in enhancing cybersecurity knowledge among management and entrepreneurship students.
