Abstract
As we advance into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the pervasive integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the workplace is reshaping the fabric of organizational dynamics. This paper investigates the dualistic impact of AI engagement on employees, examining both the enhancement of individual performance and the implications for quality of life. Employing a mixed-methods approach within the context of China's intense ‘Neijuan’ work culture, the study explores the extent to which AI engagement influences employee individual performance and quality of life. The research reveals a complex interplay between improved job performance through AI engagement and potential detriments to quality of life, including increased work hours and stress related to upskilling demands. By delving into this multifaceted relationship, the study bridges a crucial gap in the literature and underscores the importance of culturally informed strategies to harness AI’s benefits while safeguarding employee well-being.
