Abstract
There is a growing interest in how artificial intelligence (AI) shapes business and society, with great attention paid to management and organization studies. However, little has been said about the scope of AI-responsible management. This article puts forward conceptual relationships between AI, AI designers, AI users/ adopters, and the society targets represented by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By setting these relationships, it introduces definitions of AI as intelligent and cognitive machines, designers of AI, the symbolic consciousness of the AI (machine) that performs tasks and participates in the organization, and the work responsibilities that set relationships between AI, AI designers, and the organizations adopting them. It also discusses explainable AI as a necessary feature to improve human trust in AI. Finally, it connects these conceptual AI elements to society and proposes a responsible management framework for AI.
