Abstract
High employee turnover within non-profit organizations (NPOs) constitutes a substantial expense, undermining the organization's effectiveness and posing sustainability challenges. The literature on employee turnover in the non-profit sector is expanding, yet lacks comprehensive and consolidated insights. This study conducts a systematic literature review (SLR) to consolidate existing research studies on employee turnover within the non-profit sector. The systematic literature review analyzes the results of 43 studies and presents them within an integrated framework. Our review uncovered that the existing body of literature could be categorized into four overarching research themes of factors influencing employee turnover in NPOs, namely, human resource policies and practices, organizational climate, job factors and individual attributes. This SLR suggests potential research directions for academics and provides valuable implications for both theoretical development and practical application.
