Abstract
The concept of regenerative leadership has been introduced to guide leaders in transitioning
their organizations to restore the degenerative consequences of our economic system – with
more planetary boundaries (Richardson et al., 2023; Steffen et al., 2015) being crossed and
low increases in social welfare (UN, 2023). Though regenerative leadership
is a promising concept and framing we argue that the concept has a weak conceptual and
theoretical basis, and in need of an empirical rooting. Our contribution is in exploring
regenerative leadership-practices through a comparative case study of two Nordic companies.
Three emerging practices are highlighted: Advocating for the impacted, Reconnecting to
nature, and Driving & aligning transformation.
