Abstract
The study aims to explore the self-perceived leadership competency of clinical managers, where there is limited research on this phenomenon. The NHS England clinical leadership competency framework, which includes five elements and 20 clinical leadership items, is considered appropriate for understanding these competencies. A systematic literature review methodology was used to explore the current status of research on clinical managers' self-perceived leadership competency, challenges, and developmental needs. The review found that clinical managers have the highest self-perceived leadership competency in the element of "working with others" (developing networks, building and maintaining relationships, encouraging contribution, and working within teams). However, the attributes of "improving service" were the least reported high self-perceived leadership competency among the clinical managers.
