Abstract
This study emphasizes the importance of integrating prospective sensemaking with corporate foresight to maintain a competitive edge for established organizations in the unpredictable landscape. The study also underscores the role of collaboration between established organizations and corporate accelerators as a nexus for innovation and strategic entrepreneurship. Specifically, we explore how managers of an established organization make sense of ongoing digital changes and leverage these interpretations to develop foresight capabilities. Our findings are based on interviews with top and middle managers of one of the leading European banks and its corporate accelerator, as well as with startup founders, forming a dynamic community of practice. Conducting an inductive single-case study, we provide empirical evidence for how prospective sensemaking and foresight practices enhance an organization’s capability to navigate uncertainty, suggesting a strategic approach that utilizes alternative futures as a catalyst for innovation and preparedness.
