Abstract
Hotel sustainability and stakeholder engagement are interlinked. Primary social stakeholders play a key role in fostering hotel sustainability. However, senior hoteliers’ perspectives on stakeholder involvement in sustainability have rarely been addressed in the hotel sustainability literature. To address this gap in the literature, we conducted in-depth interviews with 23 senior hotel executives in Sri Lanka. The study found that hotel suppliers, guests, and engineers are the main stakeholders in hotel sustainability in Sri Lanka. Further, the study discovered that the role played by the engineer in hotel sustainability is expanding. These study findings extend our understanding of stakeholder contribution to economic, social and environmental sustainability in hotel organisations. The study findings may benefit both national and international hotel associations and tourism regulatory agencies.
